Student Programming Model

The Department of Residential Life supports diversity through a variety of programs and services. The programs listed below are examples of on-going departmental services.

Learning Communities

Many opportunities for diversity programming are available within your community or facility. For the latest available specialty housing, please check the website at www.reslife.okstate.edu. If you are interested in formulating a living community, please contact your Residence Director.

Athletic Training

The College of Education is proud to welcome Athletic Training: Clinical and Athletic Training: Pre-Professional majors to the third floor of Village Hall E. The House is open to all classifications of students, and faculty involvement will allow students to get to know their professors outside of the classroom.

Career Exploration

Located on the second floor of Village Hall C, the Career Exploration Floor is designed to help freshmen and sophomores who are unsure of their academic and career goals and need some guidance. Participants will live together, enroll in common classes, and explore different careers in a fun and accepting environment. Sponsored by the College of Arts and Sciences. Computer Science House is located on the seventh floor of Kerr Hall for men interested in computer science or other related fields. The students have created their own computer lab, and are very active in gaming. Participants will be asked to sign a participation agreement.

CASNAR House

CASNR House is a partnership between the College of Agricultural Sciences and Natural Resources and Residential Life to help ensure the success of Ag students. The third and fourth floors of Village Hall CASNR have been designated as the home of the FIT (Freshmen in Transition) community. The first and second floors of Village Hall CASNR is home to the CASNR House learning community for upperclass students and alumni of the FIT program.

Computer Science

House The mission of the house is to provide a comfortable, stimulating, and productive living environment for computer science and other computer oriented majors. It is housed on the seventh floor of Kerr Hall and is open to men. Participants must sign a participation contract.

Engineering Houses

Engineering floors are designed to house students with majors in the College of Engineering Architecture and Technology (CEAT). There is a computer lab on the Kerr-Drummond mezzanine, as well as a study lounge for engineering students. CEAT has tutoring sessions several times a week on the floors for most first and second year engineering courses. All engineering students can choose from floors in Kerr (male), Drummond (female), or Allen Halls. Non-freshmen engineering students may also select Bost Hall as a living option.

Health and Sciences House

If you are seeking admission to a medical, dental, nursing, physical therapy, optometry, or other professional health program, then you should consider living on the Health Sciences House. Located on the fourth floor of Village Hall C, this community is sponsored by the College of Arts and Sciences. Participants will take common classes, live together, and learn about your chosen professions.

HES House

The College of Human and Environmental Sciences' House is located in Village Hall HES. The third and fourth floors are home to freshmen HES majors, while the first two floors are home to non-freshmen and transfer students. Faculty members, student leaders, and College representatives will be very active in the communities to encourage participation and involvement.

Journalism and Broadcasting House

The J & B House is located on the third floor of Village Hall C, and is sponsored by the College of Arts and Sciences. Freshmen students will take classes together during their first year, and all classifications of students will live together in the community. Faculty will teach classes in the building, and be involved both in and out of the classroom.

Kamm Leadership House

Located in Kamm Hall, the Leadership House has been developed with the assistance of former OSU President Robert Kamm. Students interested in developing leadership skills, learning more about the importance of leadership, and becoming more involved in the residence halls, may want to consider living in Kamm Hall.

Ketchum House

Native American heritage, language, and customs are the focus of Ketchum House located on the first and second floors in Allen Hall. All students are encouraged to participate in house activities while living together on the same community. Sponsored in conjunction with Multicultural Affairs, participants must sign a participation contract.

Maude's Quad, Women in Engineering House

This house has been established on the third floor of Allen Hall, and is named for the first woman to take an engineering course at OSU. The program components include a learning community, career exploration, and course clustering.

Recovery House

This is available through special application for students who want to continue their education and sobriety through a program designed to meet the needs of students in recovery. It is not a treatment program, but provides programs and structure to support students recovering from drug and/or alcohol dependence. Students can live independently within a community that fosters emotional, social, and environmental support and sensitivity to their struggles and triumphs. Participants will be housed in four bedroom apartments whose location will be kept confidential.

Spanish House

Located on the tenth floor of Wentz Hall, the Spanish House is open to men and women. The mission of the Spanish House is to create an educational, social, and cultural environment where people can grow and develop; speaking the Spanish language will be strongly encouraged. Prior Spanish language ability is NOT a requirement to live in the Spanish House. However, residents need to have already taken or currently be enrolled in an entry-level Spanish class. Residents will be asked to sign a participation contract.

Spears School of Business House

The fourth floor of Village Hall E is home to the Spears School of Business learning community. The House will allow upperclass students to share their knowledge of OSU and the Spears School of Business with freshmen business students through the Apprentice/Mentor program.

Stout Honors House

Students involved in the University Honors Program are eligible to live on the first three floors of Stout Hall. Floors are co-ed by wing, and involvement and leadership are the norm, rather than the exception.

Uhuru House

Students interested in learning more about the African culture, heritage, and history will live together on the third floor of Jones Hall. Any student regardless of race is eligible to live on this community, and all participants will have to sign a participation contract.

Wellness House

The mission of the Wellness House is to provide a total wellness living and learning environment for residents based on interests in healthy living, including nutrition, stress management, and exercise. There is a zero tolerance for offenses involving alcohol, drugs, or tobacco use. Stinchcomb Hall is open to any classification of student.
