Oklahoma State University was founded on December 25, 1890 as a land grant university. Classes first began with no books, no buildings, and no curriculum. In 1894, two and a half years after classes had started in churches the students were then moved into the first academic building. At this time Oklahoma State University was known as Oklahoma A&M. In 1957, Oklahoma A&M became known as Oklahoma State University. Other branches were established in Okmulgee in 1946, Oklahoma City in 1961, and Tulsa in 1999. Enrollment is at approximately 32,000 students on the four campuses. All 50 states and approximately 120 nations are represented by Oklahoma State's student body.
The flagship campus of Oklahoma State University is located in Stillwater - a north-central Oklahoma community with a population of 42,000. It is located approximately 60 miles from Tulsa and Oklahoma City.
Stillwater was the starting point for the first Oklahoma land run, and boasts itself as the place "Where Oklahoma Began!"
The Edmon Low Library at OSU is the perfect back-drop for pictures. The lawn directly in front of the library is a great place to relax or hang out with friends.
