10. What if I am on the waiting list?

When a host registers, we will take the top person off of the waiting list. All changes in waiting list status will be communicated via e-mail. Everyone will be notified of a final status by mid March.

11. What are my chances of getting off the waiting list?

We are committed to maximizing the experience of every participant by requiring them to be at This is the Life for the duration of the event.

14. Is there a no-overnight option?
One of the core goals of This is the Life is to allow participants to experience a night within a residence hall community. Therefore, we are requiring all participants to stay for the overnight portion of the event. We believe this is a positive opportunity because staying in a residence hall with others close to your age with common interests is a very enlightening and enjoyable experience. You can begin making friends at your future school and feel at home when you arrive in August.

15. How do I register?
The registration process is designed to be as easy as possible, and is made available exclusively online.

Visit the Registration site and follow the instructions.

16. Did you get my registration/money?
Once you complete your registration online, we will send you an e-mail indicating that we have received your information.

17. I had a computer problem, did my registration go through?
Once you complete your registration online, we will send you a confirmation e-mail indicating that we have received your information. If you have not received confirmation from us, it is likely that your registration did not go through, and we will need your information again.

18. Can I request a specific host?
We have found that some of the best experiences at This is the Life occur when participants are paired with a complete stranger and make new friends at their future college. Therefore, we encourage you to allow yourself to be paired with a host who you do not know so that you can have a fresh experience.

However, we will strive to accommodate your need in this matter if you would like a specific host. Inform us in the “Special Needs” section of your application. Please enter the name of the host you would like to request and tell us how you know this person. We will contact that person and inform them of your request, and when the registration pairings take place, we will attempt to place you with your requested host. While we cannot guarantee that you will actually be assigned to your requested host, we will do our best to honor your request. We ask that you contact the person in advance and ask them to be sure to sign up as a host for the event. We must also ask that you do not request a person of the opposite sex, because we will only pair participants with hosts of the same sex.

If you have already completed your registration, e-mail the name of the host you wish to be paired with to osu.thisisthelife@okstate.edu.

19. Do I need to bring any money?
Your participation fee covers everything necessary for the event. However, there will be opportunities to stop by the student store for elective shopping.

20. What are Living-learning communities?
The living-learning communities are special interest housing options on campus that are geared towards a particular college, major, or interest. These communities allow a group of commonly interested students to share academic and co-curricular experiences. To see all OSU living-learning communities, visit: http://www.reslife.okstate.edu/housing/learningcomm.php?nav=3.

21. Is there anything for parents to do?
While This is the Life is an event specifically designed for students to fully experience college life, there will be a short, elective presentation for the parents Saturday morning. This will be a panel presentation featuring Residential Life Staff and a representative of the OSU Parents Association. After this presentation, there are no activities planned by This is the Life for parents.

22. What are the sleeping arrangements at This is the Life?
Sleeping arrangements are mutually agreed upon by participant and host. Hosts and participants are advised that there are two options for sleeping on the night of April 5:

• Participants will sleep in a secure residence hall room, suite, or apartment. Depending on room setup, participants may sleep on a bed, a couch, or the floor. Most hosts have a twin or full-size mattress. Bed linens are not provided, so participants are advised to bring a sleeping bag, pillow and other desired bed items. This is the default, recommended option.

• Some specific residence hall communities that host a significant number of This is the Life participants choose to host a sleep-out activity where all This is the Life hosts and participants for that floor sleep in large single-sex groups in community spaces. This arrangement is supervised by Hall Staff and held inside secure residence halls. Hosts and participants need a sleeping bag, pillow and other desired bed items for this option.

23. Can parents stay overnight?
Most parents do not spend the night at OSU because parental involvement beyond the Saturday morning parent session is limited in order to give the participants a sense of the independence associated with life on a college campus.

However, overnight lodging is available at two places on the OSU campus to those parents or others requiring them:
• Scott Hall offers basic guest accommodations. For reservations contact Scott Hall at 405-744-5019
• The Atherton Hotel is a full service hotel located in the OSU Student Union. For reservations contact the Atherton Hotel at 405-744-6835 or at stay@okstate.edu.

24. What is This is the Life Happens at the Union?
This is the Life Happens at the Union consists of four events.
• Casino Night
• Guitar SuperHero
• Superhero Movies
• Fantastic Final Four on the Big Screen

25. Can transfer students come to This is the Life?
The fact that you are a transfer student has no affect on your registration to This is the Life. We are more than happy to have transfer students experience OSU for the first time.

26. Does your host stay with you the whole time?
Your host stays with you the entire day throughout all of the activities and meals including the scavenger hunt across campus and the This is the Life Happens at the Union events later that evening. They are there to show you and tell you what OSU is like and how great it is to be a student here and live on campus. Please indicate your transfer status on your application.

27. Can students who have been accepted to NOC-Stillwater also attend This is the Life?
Students who have been accepted to Northern Oklahoma College-Stillwater and are planning on living in OSU residence halls in the fall are welcome to attend This is the Life 2008. We encourage you to sign up soon.
